You're in the Right Place

Most people who find this show aren't looking for a wellness podcast. They're looking for answers.

Maybe you've tried to cut back before and the headaches made you give up. Maybe your doctor mentioned your heart rate, your anxiety, your sleep — and caffeine never came up. Maybe you're just tired of being tired, and you're starting to wonder if what you're running on isn't actually energy at all.

Live Unwired: Life After Caffeine is the official podcast of the Adrenal Foundation. Every episode is a real story from a real person — layered with neuroscience, practical context, and tools you can use starting today.

You don't have to be ready to quit. You just have to be curious.

What This Show Is About

Caffeine is the most widely consumed psychoactive drug on the planet. It's also the one no one talks about seriously.

We do.

Each week, we go deep on:

No fluff. No perfect morning routines. Just honest stories and the science behind them.

Start With These Episodes

These five episodes are the best entry points into the show — each one covers a different angle of the caffeine conversation:

  1. I Have Chosen Life: Caffeine Toxicity, Rock Bottom & Recovery — An NYC audio engineer nearly dies from caffeine toxicity. One of the most gripping stories we've published.
  2. 28 Years of Caffeine — Ended by an Accident — Sometimes it takes something unexpected to show you what was always there.
  3. The Medicine Was Making It Worse — A journalist's chest pains, her migraine medication, and the hidden caffeine in both.
  4. Devil's Chemical — One Tablet Away From Losing Everything — Caffeine tablets, a pregnancy, and a relationship — all lost before anyone called it an addiction.
  5. Ten Days Between Hell and Eden — A Wall Street trader on 64 ounces of diet cola a day finds out what detox really costs.

 Are You Ready to Quit?

If you're thinking about quitting — or already trying — here's what you should know:

Caffeine withdrawal is real and recognized. The symptoms (headaches, fatigue, brain fog, irritability, depression) typically peak between 24–72 hours and can last 7–10 days. For heavy users, the full recovery arc is longer.

You don't have to go cold turkey. A gradual taper is often more sustainable, especially if you're consuming more than 400mg daily (roughly 4 cups of coffee).

Your nervous system needs time. Quitting caffeine isn't just about removing the drug — it's about allowing your adenosine receptors to recalibrate and your adrenal system to stop being constantly triggered.
